A true gem!
by Nicole Poole - New York, New York USA

10 Dec 2008

I have stayed at the Hotel Castex several times over the years; I visit Paris often, and when I am not staying with friends, I immediately book a room (either No. 1 or No. 2, in the back) at Castex.  Even after a year between visits, Hervé, Véronique and Octavio remember me, making me feel like a friend.  Other guests have related the same feeling.

The location is perfectly situated between the lively neighborhoods of Bastille and le Marais, and the various metro stops nearby make the rest of Paris very accessible. I feel very lucky to have found Hotel Castex; I cannot afford the price of five-star hotels, but Hotel Castex makes me feel as if I can.

It is a quiet, beautiful, gracious hotel, and the staff take a great deal of pride in ensuring the guests’ comfort. They will patiently speak French with you (no matter your level), switching to English with a warm smile, and have fantastic recommendations for restaurants, attractions or transportation. The rooms are clean and well appointed, the breakfast is very good, the coffee strong, the bathtubs divine, the towels and sheets and pillows soft, and perhaps most importantly, the atmosphere elegantly transfers to the guests, who are quiet and respectful.  This is not a party hotel, but it is not at all stuffy. It is a gracious Parisian friend who welcomes your stay.

In short, the staff care deeply about their hotel, and it shows.  Castex maintains its Parisian dignity while ensuring your comfort.  A rare, true gem of a hotel. I look forward to my next stay.
